Synopsis

This Chinese film about the king of gambling tells the story of the life journey of a gambling king named Ken (Chow Yun Fat) after he experienced memory loss due to an accident.

Ken before experiencing an accident that wiped most of his memory was a very famous gambling king. He has god class gambling skills . Many rivals submit to him while in action at the gambling table.

Long story short, one day Ken had an accident and immediately got help from a young man named Michael Chan (Andy Lau). Michael Chan himself did not know that Ken was a very famous person because Ken’s profile as the king of gambling had never been exposed.

Together with his grandmother, Michael took very good care of Ken. After recovering, Ken again showed his gambling skills . He showed off his sportsbetting skills directly to Michael. Despite his memory loss, Ken’s gambling talent and habit of eating chocolate have never disappeared.

After living with Michael and his grandmother for a while, Ken’s memory has recovered a little. Shortly after recovering, he gets news that his girlfriend, Janet (Sharla Cheung) has died as a result of Ken’s former confidant, Ko Yee (Lu Fong).

Ken also plans to take revenge and a scuffle ensues. After taking revenge, Ken accepted Chan Kam-Shing’s challenge to a gambling game ‘duel’. With ease, Ken overpowers Chan. He then told Michael that he was a gambling king.

Well, this is the beginning of the student-teacher relationship between Michael Chan (Andy Lau) and Ken (Chow Yun Fat). Ken then invited Michael to teach him the tricks of gambling in person.

Synopsis

The story in the Chinese film about the king of gambling tells the story of the friendship of the three main characters. Chow Sing Cho (Stephen Chow) apparently has a special skill, namely telekinetics which he often uses when playing gambling. He also often learns other gambling skills from Michael (Andy Lau).

Chow Sing Cho is threatened with a curse if the money he gets from gambling is not used for charity. The two gambling masters, Chow and Michael, must work together and put aside all differences for the sake of one goal, which is to beat their toughest opponents.

When he was ‘dueling’ with one of the toughest opponents of the King of Gambling, aka Ken (Chow Yun Fat), Michael kept losing until he was desperate and had no more money to play gambling. Apparently, the opponent had cheated. He uses a hidden surveillance camera that can record Michael’s card display.

After finding out about the opponent’s cheating, Michael and Chow got into action. With their respective skills, the two of them start playing tricks. There are lots of hilarious scenes in this film. Even when a gambling duel was in progress. Moreover, there is the presence of Ng Man Tat, the troublemaker, who is none other than Chow’s uncle.

God of Gamblers III: Back to Shanghai

Well, the sequel to the third God of Gamblers film is a film that tells a special story about the life of the Gambling God who has telekinetic abilities. This Chinese film about the king of gambling is 100% in the comedy genre because there are indeed many ridiculous scenes that can make you laugh out loud by the action of the Gambling Angel. Maybe most of you forget to remember how the storyline of this comedy film about gambling is? Come on, let’s see the synopsys.

Synopsis

The plot of the film begins with the fight of The Gambling God aka Chow Sing Cho, who was with his uncle with a group of people. Somehow, this group of people had the special ability to send Chow to 1937-era Shanghai.

Apparently 1937 was a very important year for the Chow family. In this era, Chow is on a mission to play his part which will not change his future destiny. He also tried to find a way to return to his time, but always failed before he completed his mission.

Chow then met his grandfather who at that time was young and had a face very similar to his uncle. Grandfather was a man whose life was poor; can only sell bread and keep having heartbreak. Within 1 week, the grandfather could have broken his heart 30 times. The grandfather also often wants to die because he is not strong enough to suffer the heartbreak that he often experiences.

One day, Chow finds his grandfather is being threatened because two camps are fighting. The two camps are the red camp and the black camp. At first he only intended to help Grandpa, but in the end he was also involved in the battle.

Chow with all his abilities was able to defeat the red -shirted fort. Chow’s victory was also appreciated by the black -clad camp. As a thank you, the black -clad camp leader invited Chow to his casino.

Chow shows off his gambling skills at this casino dealer. Thanks to Chow’s presence, the casinos that were almost bankrupt are back in full swing. This casino was always subject to interference from a group of Japanese people. They ‘exhausted’ the casino through a player who also had telekinesis abilities similar to Chow’s. This person later became Chow’s toughest opponent.

Wow, the story idea is very interesting. In the early 90s, not many Asian filmmakers used the concept of time-travel as an idea for a film. Interesting and must re-watch again.

God of Gamblers IV: From Vegas to Macau (2014)

copyright to Shaw, free distribution with mandatory credit.

This Mandarin film about the king of gambling was released 20 years after God of Gamblers first officially aired (1989). The director does carry the theme of gambling casino in this film, but with a much more modern time and place setting.

This great work more or less gives a picture of the magnificent city of Macau and is the center of gambling tourism as well as the largest gambling agent in Asia. From the title alone, we already have an idea that the gambling king Chow Yun Fat will return to his hometown, Macau, China. For those of you who have forgotten the storyline of this film, let’s remember again by reading the synopsis.

Synopsis

The god of gambling Chow Yun Fat, in this film, is enjoying his retirement and lives a quiet life with his daughter, Charlie (Sammy Sum). Problems begin to arise when an Interpol officer asks for his help in catching a criminal and a big con man named Mr. Ko (Philip Ng).

There is also another character named Ken who is none other than an Interpol officer who acts as a spy. Ken became one of Mr.’s closest people. Ko. Ken’s job is to find evidence of Mr. Ko’s crimes. One time, Ken was caught having evidence of Mr. crime. Ko on a flash disk.

Mr. Ko then ordered some of his men to hunt down Ken and take back the flash disk in his hand. Ken then hid at the house of Ben, Ken’s stepfather. Due to his urgent condition, Ken then stored the flash disk in a doll belonging to Show Hand, Ken’s half brother.

It seems that the doll belonging to Show Hand has now changed hands to Charlie, the only daughter of the God of Gambling. Knowing this news, Mr. Ko’s men immediately raided Charlie and his father’s house. From this incident, inevitably the God of Gambling immediately intervened against Mr. Ko.

Unlike the previous sequels, this God of Gamblers IV film seems less attractive. Even though it contains elements of comedy, it seems that this film is not easy to make the audience tickle and laugh.

God of Gamblers Return

There is also another sequel to the God of Gamblers film which first released in 1989. This sequel is titled God of Gamblers Return. The storyline of the Chinese film about the king of gambling games is more likely to tell the story of the King of Gambling’s sad and drama-filled life.

Naturally, it is a sad story because this film focuses more on the wife of the King of Gambling who died as a result of a group of gangsters who deliberately wanted to ruin the life of the King of Gambling.

Not accepting the death of his wife, the King of Gambling then decided to take revenge. He traveled for 11 months, and exactly at the 12th month, he arrived in the Mainland. In this place, he is faithfully waiting for Chau Siu Chee, the antagonist who plays the murderer of the King of Gambling’s wife.

The two of them duel by showing off their slot gambling skills. The most terrible thing was that the two of them dared to place a bet on both eyeballs as the form of their knight soul. Isn’t that awful?
